‘RHOP’ Star Wendy Osefo and Husband Eddie Arrested on Multiple Fraud Charges

The Real Housewives of Potomac couple faces 16 counts, including several felony charges, according to Maryland authorities.

Dr. Wendy Osefo, known for her role on The Real Housewives of Potomac, and her husband, Eddie Osefo, have been arrested and charged in connection with an alleged fraud scheme, the Westminster Police Department in Maryland confirmed.

The 41-year-old reality TV personality and her husband are facing a total of 16 charges — seven of which are felonies — tied to allegations of providing “false or misleading information” in a fraud case involving more than $300. The couple was booked in Westminster, Maryland, on Thursday, October 9. The story was first reported by TMZ and later confirmed to PEOPLE by law enforcement officials.

Authorities say the charges stem from an incident earlier this year in which the couple reported a burglary while vacationing in Jamaica in April 2024. According to police, Wendy and Eddie claimed that several high-value items — including designer handbags and jewelry — had been stolen from their bedroom.

However, investigators allege that discrepancies arose when Wendy was later spotted on social media wearing one of the diamond rings reported missing in the supposed theft.

As of now, neither Wendy nor Eddie Osefo has publicly commented on the charges.

A police investigation later revealed that several of the items the couple reported as stolen had, in fact, been purchased and subsequently returned to their original retailers — with full refunds issued before the alleged burglary took place, according to authorities.

In bail recommendation documents obtained by TMZ, prosecutors claim that the Osefos filed an insurance claim reporting a personal property loss totaling $450,000.

Representatives for Wendy Osefo and Bravo did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment on Friday, October 10.

Osefo, who joined The Real Housewives of Potomac in season 5, is also set to appear in Bravo’s upcoming spinoff series Wife Swap: The Real Housewives Edition, premiering on October 14.

She and her husband, Eddie, share three children — Karter, 12, Kruz, 10, and Kamrynn, 6 — and recently celebrated their 14th wedding anniversary in August. Marking the milestone, Wendy shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram reflecting on their years together.

“14 YEARS We did the work and prayerfully, God has done the rest,” she wrote. “We have built a life that will outlive us, and for that I am forever grateful.”

Continuing her message, Wendy added, “If given the opportunity, I would choose you in this lifetime and again in the next. I’m blessed to call you my best friend and honored to have your last name. Happy 14th Anniversary, my love. Cheers to Forever ✨ #TeamOsefo.”

Eddie echoed the sentiment in his own post, calling Wendy his “best friend, life partner, pro bono therapist, hype woman, and everything in between.”

“I couldn’t imagine doing this life without you, and these past FOURTEEN years have been nothing short of a blessing. We have created three little people with our love ❤️ — a constant reminder of God’s love in our marriage,” Eddie wrote in his anniversary post. “Cheers to many more memories created, tears shed, blessings received, and massive amounts of laughter shared. After all these years, I STILL choose you .”

Wendy, a former professor at Johns Hopkins University, has also been a frequent contributor on several major cable news networks. After earning her bachelor’s degree and two master’s degrees, she made history as the first Black woman to receive a doctorate in Public Affairs–Community Development from Rutgers University in Camden.

Eddie, meanwhile, is an attorney and the founder and CEO of the cannabis brand Happy Eddie.

The Real Housewives of Potomac airs Sundays at 8 p.m. ET on Bravo. Wife Swap: The Real Housewives Edition premiered October 14 at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo.
